Simultane terc\u00fcme yap\u0131lmayacakt\u0131r.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Design\/Build as Research<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Phase Zero is a workshop on using design\/build pedagogy and its possibilities as research. It explores flexible, adaptable public spaces in ordinary times that can quickly transform into shelter spaces during disasters. Participants contribute to creating spaces that are easy to produce, open to interpretation, and embraced by the local community in post-disaster situations. The workshop entails both design\/build work and documentation and preparation of the Phase Zero manual to share with local governments. Charlie Hailey (University of Florida), Bahar Aktuna (Yeditepe University), and Berna G\u00f6l (Yeditepe University) will share the ongoing research on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Charlie Hailey<\/strong><\/strong> is an architect, writer, and professor. A Guggenheim Fellow and Fulbright Scholar, he is the author of six books, including The Porch: Meditations on the Edge of Nature<\/a>, Camps: A Guide to 21st Century Space<\/a>, Slab City: Dispatches from the Last Free Place<\/a>, and Spoil Island: Reading the Makeshift Archipelago<\/a>. Hailey teaches design\/build, studio, and theory at the University of Florida, where he was recently named Teacher\/Scholar of the Year<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Bahar Aktuna<\/strong><\/strong> is an architect and academic, presently serving as a faculty member at the Department of Architecture at Yeditepe University, where she teaches design studios, construction, building materials, and design\/build courses. Bahar earned her PhD in Design, Construction, and Planning from the University of Florida in 2019. Her current research areas include tectonic theory, design\/build pedagogy, and environmental technology. She consistently engages in collaborative projects, often giving life to small-scale architectural interventions guided by tectonic thinking and story-telling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Berna G\u00f6l<\/strong><\/strong> is working at Yeditepe University, Department of Architecture and currently coordinates the graduate programs in the same school. She is interested in intersection of literature of architecture and critical theory. Her research area revolves around the idea of context in architecture, discourse in design and the limits of the practice through changing modes of production and reproduction of things. After working for Bing\u00f6l Barka Architecture and Consultancy, she completed her dissertation “Leisure as Criticism in Architecture through Capitalism” (2017, IT\u00dc).
